a bit of painting practice here. original image was photographed by someone named maliyenko, i think this is his instagram site, https://www.instagram.com/maliyenko3217/ check out his work its like a visual vacation, his work is stunning. this is from this hotel, the bellevue syrene hotel in sorento italy. i painted from his photo for my aunts 85th birthday as a present. with the text it makes a 24x36 layout. it was a good challenge in organization and simplification of all the complex elements in the picture. i set the time of day at sunset or golden hour and changed the background to create some more interest. i also chose a gauche vacation ad look, kind of like older ads would have had when things were still painted. so there is a more graphic approach to the image and a slight simplification of its values and colors used. the original photographer did a really great composition here. none of this is for commercial use. i would call it painting practice at most. the one thing i really wanted to play up was the dappled sunlight through the trellis. that feeling of warm hits in a mostly cool dominated environment. so i fringed the lights with a red falloff to more oranges to over emphasize the warm feeling from the sun....the more interesting challenge for me was also the tile floor and its very very complex reflections....wild patterns there.
